HISTORY

Cross Excavation is located in Bethel, Maine. The firm was founded by Jack Cross over 30 years ago. Jack learned to run heavy equipment while working in the woods as a logger and while helping to develop the Mount Abram Ski area that his family owned years ago. Jack began to take on other projects and officially formed Cross Excavation. A few short years later Jack’s wife Sue joined the company and business really began to grow.

Over the years Cross Excavation grew into the premier provider of excavation services in Western Maine. In order to ease the burden of their management responsibilities Jack and Sue sold the business in 2009. Doug Jones came aboard and now owns and operates the company. Doug has a background in excavation and trucking that he gained from working in Massachusetts and owning an excavation business on Cape Cod. Doug now runs the firm with the help of Jack and Sue. Cross Excavation is now a subsidiary of Douglas W. Jones, Inc.

The firm provides services to homeowners, road associations, towns & municipalities, real estate developers and other contracting companies. We carry $1 million in general liability insurance coverage and an additional $5 million umbrella policy; other insurance coverage information can be obtained from United Insurance/Western Maine Agency in Rumford, Maine.

The company has a large modern fleet of heavy trucks and equipment but its real assets are the people who work here every day. Most of the employees have been at the company for many years. The company is built around this core group and they are the reason why the firm delivers such a high level of service.
